Have you considered making keypads more modular and possibly hotswappable?
Personally I believe it would be quite great to be able to switch out the two thumbstick options depending on what I feel like, or for example exchange one of the fingers for a mouse wheel. This would also help immensely with repairability as someone hesitant to open things up.
Granted, modularity brings difficulties with it like potentially decreased durability, but maybe it would be something for if you're going towards different materials and manufacturing processes.
