Hi there,

I'm trying to work out the best way to map controls to the Azeron keypad.

Option 1 is use the cyborg software profiles and map each in game control to a button on the cyborg.
Option 2 is to use a generic HW profile for the cyborg and then change the in game controls.

Which of the two works better and why?

I am aware of using rewasd also but I'm concerned about latency especially if grouping with a mouse.

Map the same functions on same keys.
Like jump to index key pull, crouch to pinky push button, whatever feels comfy for you.
Majority of the keys would stay for most games, so for other games you would only have to adjust some functions.

It doesn't mattter it`s hardware or software profiles as long as you keep the same functions on same keys, it will be much easier for you to adapt to it.

Exactly as @Im this guy stated, try to keep your base functions in the same places.

For me this starts with the lower pull trigger buttons, that"s ctrl for my little finger/pinky, shift for my ring finger, space for the middle finger and my index is always interact so usually E or F ( i use the games inputs when they differ from the usual, but it mostly stays the same)
Then on the push buttons at the tips of your fingers i setup the games main repeating controls/functions.
The lower push triggers also are the most important functions and controls.
The upper push buttons I use for Menu's and Map buttons
The upper pull trigger buttons i reserve for macros and rare inputs

What I'm getting at is if you keep the functions of the configuration as similar as possible, regardless of what button is assigned, you'll have a much easier time not thinking about what a button might do.

As for which option I recommend using the software setting personally, especially if you are setting any macros. the hardware profile option states it doesn't allow for macros or something along those lines.
Otherwise it doesn't matter which option you go with really, as long as the functions remain similar for where you assign the in game buttons to on the cyborg.

TLDR - Just agreeing with the previous commentor's post. lol

Both options have their pros and cons, but it ultimately depends on your playstyle. Option 1 allows for more precise control since you can tailor each button directly to the game’s commands, which can enhance your responsiveness. On the other hand, Option 2 offers flexibility by letting you customize in-game controls, which might be beneficial if you switch between different games frequently. If latency is a concern, sticking with the cyborg software profiles is likely the better choice, as it minimizes the need for additional layers of software like rewasd.

Do you have any recommendations on specific key mappings that work well for popular games? Also, how do you handle switching between different game genres? Do you have a universal setup, or do you customize it each time?

Use 1 as your default: per-game Azeron profiles, keep in-game binds close to stand.Create one universal fallback HW profile (basic WASD, interact, jump, reload, crouch, map) for troubleshooting or quick swaps.Only use reWASD when you specifically need controller emulation/advanced layers that Azeron software can’t do.

Thinking strategically about how to allocate function key layers to build your muscle memory is truly a top-notch tactic that ensures your reflexes never falter.
